Fire incidents reported in Surabaya and Bogor suspected to be caused by electrical short circuits

Two separate fires caused by suspected electrical short circuits occurred in Surabaya and Bogor.

In Surabaya, a printing shop on Jalan Kedinding Lor caught fire on Saturday evening. The incident reportedly began when an attempt to power an air conditioner caused a short circuit near the second-floor terrace. The Surabaya Department of Fire and Rescue (DPKP) deployed 16 units to combat the blaze, utilizing water from the nearby Kalitebu River. While no casualties were reported, the fire destroyed the building and its contents, as well as two parked motorcycles.

In Bogor, a fire broke out in the Suryakencana culinary center, affecting three shops and impacting two adjacent buildings. Mayor Dedie A Rachim stated that preliminary investigations suggest old and poorly maintained electrical wiring triggered the sparks. The fire spread rapidly due to flammable items such as plastic toys, stationery, and electric bicycle batteries. Fifteen fire engines were deployed to manage the situation.
