Mexico City restaurant explosion injures 13 emergency responders

An explosion caused by gas accumulation injured 13 emergency responders at the La Cabrera Casa de Carnes restaurant in the Roma Norte neighborhood of Mexico City on Wednesday night.

The incident began as a kitchen fire, reportedly caused by a failure in the exhaust hood or a damaged gas pipe. While firefighters, Civil Protection staff, and police officers were working to control the initial blaze, a buildup of gas led to a sudden deflagration.

The blast caused significant damage to the restaurant's facade and scattered debris, including furniture and glass, onto Álvaro Obregón Avenue. Approximately 80 people, including employees and residents of nearby apartments, were evacuated as a precaution.

The injured include nine firefighters, two Civil Protection workers, and two police officers. Most were treated for first-degree burns and are reported to be in stable condition. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the gas accumulation.
