Fire outbreaks in Tuscany and Abruzzo trigger emergency response

A fire broke out on 21 July at a metal‑recycling plant in Monte San Savino, Tuscany. The blaze was tackled by three fire engines and seven firefighters, with local police, Carabinieri and ARPAT environmental technicians also on site to assess the roof for possible asbestos. The fire was contained within half an hour and caused only limited damage, but officials inspected the roof to prevent the release of hazardous fibres.

Separately, a large fire in Rocca di Mezzo, Abruzzo, threatened residential buildings and two hotels. Strong winds caused the flames to flare up again on Tuesday, but fire crews and civil‑protection teams kept the blaze under control and near extinguishment. Mayor Emilio Nusca said a civil‑protection squad will remain on site through the night to monitor the area until all hotspots are fully extinguished and the site can be cleared.
