Taubaté medical student killed in traffic dispute with firefighter

Bruno Hashimura San Juliano, a 23-year-old medical student, was shot and killed following a traffic dispute in Taubaté, São Paulo. The incident occurred on Avenida do Povo, where the victim was struck by multiple shots after a confrontation with 28-year-old military firefighter Marcos Paulo Fujarra de Oliveira.

Following the shooting, the victim was transported to the Taubaté Regional Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Security footage captured the student attempting to flee on foot while clutching his chest. The investigation is currently examining conflicting accounts: the firefighter's defense claims self-defense, alleging the student brandished a silver object that appeared to be a weapon, while witnesses suggest the firefighter may have broken the student's car window before firing.

Marcos Paulo Fujarra de Oliveira was arrested in flagrante but was subsequently granted provisional liberty by the Court of Justice of São Paulo during a custody hearing. As part of his release, he must adhere to several precautionary measures, including nighttime house arrest on weekends and a prohibition on contacting the victim's family. The court also ordered the suspension of his firearm permit and his transfer to administrative duties within the military police. The case has been registered as homicide.
