Firefighting services in South America enhance emergency response
Firefighting and emergency response services across South America are implementing various initiatives to improve safety and operational capacity.
In Paraguay, the Volunteer Firefighters of Encarnación successfully completed an annual collection drive to fund the purchase of a new fire truck from France to replace aging equipment. In Uruguay, the Central Hortícola del Norte conducted training workshops for operators and officials to establish emergency protocols and fire defense measures due to the high risk of surrounding vegetation fires.
In Chile, several regional developments are underway. The Puerto Montt Fire Department is investing 60 million pesos to develop a 5,000-square-meter training field featuring modules for hazardous materials and vehicle rescue. In Papudo, the local fire department is acquiring a vehicle from the United States, supported by a municipal subsidy to cover transport costs. Additionally, in La Calera, emergency services including firefighters and Carabineros conducted a realistic reenactment of a fatal traffic accident to promote road safety awareness during the upcoming national holidays.
