Firefighting equipment acquisition in South America

Firefighting institutions in Paraguay and Chile are acquiring new emergency vehicles to enhance their response capabilities.

In Encarnación, Paraguay, the Volunteer Firefighters Corps is using funds from an annual community collection campaign to purchase a fire truck from France. The institution stated the new vehicle is required to replace aging equipment that incurs high maintenance costs.

In Papudo, Chile, the local Fire Department is purchasing a vehicle from the United States for approximately 60 million pesos. This acquisition was funded through accumulated bank credits and operational management, with the Papudo Municipality providing an extraordinary subsidy of 13 million pesos to cover transport costs.

Regional efforts to improve safety have expanded to include training and infrastructure. In Uruguay, the Central Hortícola del Norte has implemented training workshops for officials to establish emergency protocols and fire defense measures due to the high risk of vegetation fires. Meanwhile, in Puerto Montt, Chile, the Fire Department is investing 60 million pesos to develop a 5,000-square-meter training field equipped with modules for vehicle rescue and hazardous materials.
