Series of fires sweep Romanian counties in early August

A wave of fires broke out across several Romanian counties between 2 and 4 August 2026. Incidents included two cemetery blazes in Dângeni and Albești, a parking fire in Oradea that destroyed two cars, a salon fire in Iași caused by an intentional explosion, a hall fire in Dârmănești (Argeș) that damaged equipment, a grajd fire in Bodoș (Covasna) that threatened a barn and livestock, extensive vegetation fires in Caraș‑Severin, Botești and Roman, a house fire in Frătăuții Vechi that razed a wooden home, and two beach‑side fires on Constanța’s Zoom Beach. No fatalities were reported; injuries were limited to minor burns and smoke inhalation. Authorities attributed most blazes to open flames used for candles or heating, short‑circuit electrical faults, or careless use of fire in dry vegetation. Firefighters from local and volunteer units, supported by aerial water drops in Caraș‑Severin, contained the flames, preventing wider damage. Material losses ranged from a few thousand euros for the garage fire to about €100 000 for the Constanța beach fire.
