Italian fire brigades confront series of wildfires as new equipment approved in Ferrara

Vigili del Fuoco and volunteer fire squads fought several forest and vegetation fires in July 2026 across central and northern Italy. In Lazio, large blazes near Anzio and Ardea threatened homes before being contained by local fire crews, the Protezione Civile and numerous autobotti. In Piedmont, a fire in Valprato Soana‑Ronco Canavese required a Canadair aircraft dropping water from Rome, while in Lombardy fires near Golasecca and Vigevano were tackled by AIB volunteers and police road closures. In Tuscany, an outbreak on the SR 429 near Castelfiorentino saw two fire teams, an autobotte and a regional AIB helicopter deployed, with the mayor confirming the blaze was under control.

Meanwhile, the Fratelli d’Italia party tabled an amendment in Ferrara demanding better resources for the local fire command. The proposal secured roughly €64,000 for immediate upgrades and confirmed the arrival of a new tank‑truck fire engine to replace a destroyed unit, urging continued dialogue with the Ministry of the Interior and regional authorities for further funding.
