First Ebola Patient Discharged from Beni Treatment Center in DRC

Health authorities confirmed that the first patient treated for Ebola virus disease at the Ebola Treatment Center in Beni, North Kivu, has been discharged after testing negative for the virus. The recovery demonstrates the effectiveness of early diagnostic testing, isolation protocols and supportive care such as intravenous fluids and electrolyte management, as outlined by the World Health Organization and the DRC Ministry of Health.

The discharge is seen as a milestone for outbreak containment in the region, encouraging community trust in treatment facilities and reinforcing ongoing efforts in contact tracing, surveillance and the provision of protective equipment and trained staff.

Officials caution that challenges remain, including supply logistics and security concerns, and emphasize continued vigilance to prevent further transmission.
