TV Globo commentator Luis Roberto completes cancer treatment

Brazilian Globo sports commentator Luis Roberto announced that he has finished treatment for head and neck cancer. In an Instagram video he said he underwent 33 radiotherapy sessions and seven chemotherapy cycles. He linked the announcement to the "Julho Verde" campaign, reminding the public that July is a month of awareness for head‑and‑neck cancers and urging early diagnosis.

Roberto described typical warning signs such as non‑healing mouth sores, a lump in the neck, persistent hoarseness, sore throat that does not improve and difficulty swallowing, and advised anyone with these symptoms to see a specialist. He thanked family, friends and the millions of viewers who offered support during his illness, noting that the solidarity helped his mental health. The treatment forced him to step away from covering the 2026 World Cup, but he later appeared on "Domingão com Huck" to discuss his experience and encourage others to share information, emphasizing that "information saves lives."
