Alps experience first snowfall of the season
The first snowfall of the season has arrived in various mountainous regions across the Alps. In Bavaria, Germany, snow fell during the night of October 22, covering peaks in the Mangfall Mountains and leaving a thin layer at the Sudelfeld ski area around 1,500 meters. Meteorologists from the German Weather Service (DWD) indicate that while snow is expected to continue in higher elevations, it may only stick above 1,800 meters due to relatively warm ground temperatures.
In Austria, snow has been reported in Vorarlberg, specifically at the Diedamskopf in the Bregenzerwald, where a cold front has lowered the snow line. In Carinthia and East Tyrol, the snow line is expected to drop to between 800 and 1,000 meters by Saturday, with potential accumulation in the Defereggental and upper Mölltal. Temperatures in these regions are forecasted to drop significantly, with some areas seeing highs between 3 and 10 degrees Celsius.
