First snowfall reported in high altitudes of Germany and Switzerland
The first snowfalls of the season have been recorded in high-altitude regions of Germany and Switzerland. In Germany, the German Weather Service (DWD) reported that snow or sleet could fall on the Feldberg in the Black Forest during the night of October 22, with the snow line dropping to between 1,300 and 1,500 meters. While a continuous snow cover is not expected, the region may see its first winter precipitation of the autumn.
In Switzerland, MeteoSchweiz reported the season's first snowfall reaching altitudes of 1,200 meters. Significant accumulations were noted at the Säntis station with 26 centimeters of fresh snow, and 18 centimeters at Col du Grand St-Bernard. Some lower regions, such as Lenzerheide, also experienced light dusting. These conditions provide an early start for certain ski areas, though many larger resorts await more stable conditions for their official season openings.
