Fisascat Cisl demands better pay for Italian pharmacy workers

Fisascat Cisl has raised concerns regarding the evolving role of Italian pharmacies, which are transitioning from traditional medicine dispensaries into local healthcare hubs. These facilities now provide services such as vaccinations, screenings, telemedicine, and appointment bookings.

Representatives Alessandro Gualtieri and Giorgia Bumma stated that this expansion of responsibilities must be met with professional recognition and adequate compensation. The union is calling for improved professional classifications, sufficient staffing levels, continuous training during working hours, and organizational structures designed to prevent burnout and excessive workloads.

Additionally, the union noted a trend where independent, family-run pharmacies are increasingly being acquired by large corporations and capital companies, shifting the landscape from community-based structures to centrally managed organizations.
