Fisherton: 17-year-old referee assaulted during youth football match

A 17-year-old referee, Bautista Pereyra, was physically assaulted and threatened with death during a youth football match in Fisherton. The incident occurred during an 8th division game between Club Atlético Fisherton and Defensores de Funes.

The violence reportedly erupted after Pereyra issued red cards to two players from the visiting Defensores de Funes team. Following the ejections, players and parents invaded the pitch and attacked the referee. Pereyra managed to flee to the locker rooms to seek refuge, but he was pursued by players who issued death threats, stating, ‘We are going to wait for you at the exit and we are going to kill you.’

The young official required medical attention for injuries sustained during the attack. Local sports officials and coaches have expressed deep concern regarding the escalation of violence in youth sports, calling for stricter controls and sanctions to protect players and officials in formative sporting environments.
