Five climbers die in Aosta Valley accidents, funeral permits issued

The public prosecutor in Aosta issued a clearance for the funerals of five alpinists who died over the weekend in the Aosta Valley. Three Italian climbers from Trentino—Sergio Martinelli (29), Maicol Zenatti (39) and Antonio Sardano (49)—were killed by a 400‑metre fall on the north face of Gran Paradiso on Friday. A French climber fell more than 800 metres from Pic Tyndall on the Italian normal route of the Cervino on Saturday, and another French alpinist died after slipping on the Brenva Glacier of Mont Blanc. The investigations have been assigned to the Alpine Rescue Service of the Guardia di Finanza in the Entrèves and Cervinia stations. Families can now proceed with the burial arrangements.
