Several serious road crashes in Croatia leave drivers critically injured
On 27 June 2026 a car in Donji Dragonošci left the road, struck a light pole and caught fire. The driver suffered severe injuries and was air‑lifted by a medical helicopter to the Clinical Hospital Dubrava in Zagreb.
Earlier that morning near Galovac Začretsko a 23‑year‑old driver lost control, the vehicle overturned and ignited. Neighbours rescued him from the flames and he was also flown to the same Zagreb hospital with serious injuries.
In a separate incident near Pobjenik, a 68‑year‑old man drove a truck while intoxicated (blood alcohol 1.75 ‰) and without a licence. He lost control, the truck fell into a ditch and both the driver and his 62‑year‑old passenger were injured. They were taken by ambulance to Bjelovar General Hospital; the driver was arrested.
