Italy: Police arrested for drug corruption and seven held for mafia murder
Italian authorities have executed major arrest warrants involving two distinct criminal investigations.
In the first case, five police officers from the Anzio-Nettuno commissariat have been placed in pretrial detention. They face charges including criminal association, drug trafficking, embezzlement, forgery, and unauthorized access to police computer systems. Investigators allege the officers coordinated a controlled delivery and a delayed seizure of 25 kilograms of cocaine, while omitting the seizure of an additional 50 kilograms. The investigation, which involved an Albanian citizen who died in a car crash during a pursuit, also uncovered the misappropriation of approximately 20,000 euros.
In a second major operation, seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the 2019 murder of Fabrizio Piscitelli, known as ‘Diabolik’. The investigation, coordinated by the Rome District Anti-Mafia Directorate, characterizes the killing as a mafia-style execution intended to benefit the Senese clan and secure control over the narcotics market. The suspects face charges including aggravated homicide with mafia methods, extortion with war weapons, and drug trafficking association.
