By late September 2026, Italian law enforcement continued widespread operations targeting drug trafficking, organized fraud, and public safety. Previous efforts in Rome, Milan, and Naples focused on dismantling drug networks, addressing phone fraud targeting the elderly, and managing holiday crowds. On September 11, operations expanded to include inspections of maritime concessions and beach establishments in the Vibo Valentia province to counter mafia infiltration. Narcotics enforcement remained a priority, with significant seizures in Pescara and the dismantling of criminal groups in Bolzano and Merano. On September 16, authorities launched major operations against organized crime in Naples and the Taranto-Matera region. In Naples, a crackdown by the Carabinieri and the Direzione Distrettuale Antimafia led to 31 precautionary measures against members of the Petrone-Puccinelli clan, dismantling a drug trafficking network in the Rione Traiano, Pianura, and Fuorigrotta areas. Investigators identified a drug-dealing ‘bunker’ in an illegal underground space known as ‘la 34’, which reportedly generated approximately 450,000 euros per month from cocaine sales. Simultaneously, an investigation targeted a ‘caporalato’ system involving the illegal exploitation of agricultural labor between Taranto and Matera. On September 28, the Guardia di Finanza dismantled a criminal organization in the Salento region, specifically targeting Presicce-Acquarica and Lecce. The group, led by Cengs De Paola and promoter Valentina Ingrosso, utilized a method where Ingrosso allegedly used a basket lowered from a balcony to exchange cash for drugs. The investigation also linked the group to a 2022 attempted murder. In late September, anti-drug operations yielded further significant results. In Modena, Carabinieri seized 133 kilograms of hashish and 9.5 kilograms of cocaine, valued at over 2 million euros. In Palermo, a couple was arrested after a drug depot was found in their home.
