Five KPU Kotawaringin Timur Officials Charged Over Rp40B Pilkada Grant

Five officials of the Kotawaringin Timur regional election commission (KPU), including the chair and four commissioners, have been detained on suspicion of misappropriating funds allocated for the 2023‑2024 regional election (pilkada). The Central Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office (Kejaksaan Tinggi Kalimantan Tengah) alleges that the alleged diversion of the grant, which totals around Rp40 billion, caused a state loss estimated at up to Rp10 billion.

The suspects were escorted in handcuffs to a Class IIA detention facility in Palangka Raya. The case underscores the authorities' focus on tackling corruption within election bodies and aims to restore public confidence in Indonesia's electoral institutions.
