Corruption investigations into Indonesian grant funds

Authorities in Indonesia have detained several officials in connection with the misappropriation of government grant funds in different regions.

In Kotawaringin Timur, five regional election commission (KPU) officials, including the chair and four commissioners, were detained following allegations of diverting approximately Rp40 billion in funds allocated for the 2023–2024 regional elections. The Central Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office estimates the diversion caused state losses of up to Rp10 billion.

In Gorontalo, the High Prosecutor's Office named four suspects in a corruption case involving the misuse of 2024 grants intended for the Gorontalo National Sports Committee (KONI). The investigation concerns approximately Rp25 billion in provincial grants meant for athlete support and preparations for the 2024 Aceh-Sumut National Sports Week. The suspects, including the Chairman of KONI Gorontalo, allegedly misappropriated funds during the procurement of goods and services and the distribution of aid, resulting in an estimated state loss of Rp2.32 billion.
