Five Malaysian nationals arrested for cocaine smuggling at Haneda Airport

Five Malaysian nationals, including four men and one woman, have been arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department for allegedly smuggling approximately five kilograms of cocaine into Japan. The group arrived at Haneda Airport from Kuala Lumpur International Airport on October 9.

Customs officials discovered the drugs after noticing unusually thick soles on one suspect's footwear. Upon inspection, officers found that each individual had concealed 500 grams of cocaine beneath the insoles of both shoes, totaling one kilogram per person. The street value of the seized cocaine is estimated at 120 million yen (approximately RM3.1 million).

During questioning, four of the suspects admitted to the charges. One suspect, 24-year-old Mohamad Danial Farhan Abdul Rahman, stated he was recruited via Telegram for a job paying 8,000 ringgit to transport illegal drugs overseas. A 25-year-old woman denied the allegations, claiming she was unaware of the contents in her possession. Police are investigating whether the group was recruited by a criminal syndicate based in Malaysia.
