Five Palestinians found dead after boat accidents near Greek islands

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has confirmed the discovery of five Palestinian bodies in Greek waters following two separate boat accidents near the islands of Lesvos and Samos. The incidents occurred on October 19, 2026, as individuals attempted to reach Greece from Lebanon and Syria.

According to the Greek Coast Guard, four bodies were recovered near Lesvos and one near Samos. Palestinian embassies in Athens and Beirut are coordinating with Greek authorities, including the Central Migration Service and the Coast Guard, to identify the deceased and complete legal procedures for death certificates.

Diplomats are working with the victims' families to arrange the repatriation of the bodies to Lebanon and Syria. The Ministry noted that these administrative and legal processes may take time due to Greek regulations. The Ministry also issued a warning to Palestinian citizens regarding the catastrophic risks of irregular migration and unsafe sea voyages.
