Five Romanian beaches receive Blue Flag certification for 2026

Five beaches on the Romanian coast have been awarded the international Blue Flag certification for 2026. The Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism announced that the certified locations are Axxis Nova and Phoenicia in Năvodari, Azur and Citadel in Eforie Sud, and Phoenicia Blue View in Olimp.

To receive the label, beaches must meet 33 specific criteria across four categories: environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management, and safety and services. The Blue Flag program, initiated in 1987 by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), promotes sustainable tourism and high environmental standards.

While the number of certified beaches in Romania has seen a decline in recent years—from seven in 2024 to five in 2026—new candidates are preparing for future cycles. Dharma Beach in Eforie Sud is currently in a pilot phase to meet the necessary requirements for the 2027 edition.
