Five-year-old autistic boy found dead in biodigestor in Araucária, Brazil
João Gabriel Ferreira dos Santos, a five‑year‑old boy with a level‑2 autism spectrum disorder who was non‑verbal, was reported missing on the morning of Sunday, 26 July 2026, in a rural property near Araucária, Paraná. After two days of searches, his body was recovered on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, by the Corpo de Bombeiros while they were emptying water‑accumulation points. The child was found in a biodigestor about 70 metres from the family house and the remains were transferred to the Instituto Médico Legal (IML).
The Polícia Civil and Polícia Científica have opened an investigation. According to the local police delegate, Gabriel Fontana, officials have not identified any evidence of criminal activity and are initially treating the death as accidental. Authorities said they will continue gathering testimonies from the parents, relatives and others to clarify the circumstances.
