Vitória defeats Vasco in Serie A, marking Pedro Emanuel’s debut

Vitória beat Vasco 1‑0 on July 16, 2026, in the 19th round of Brazil's Serie A after the World Cup hiatus. Renato Kayzer scored the only goal after exploiting a defensive lapse by Vasco.

The match was the first for new Vasco head coach Pedro Emanuel, who replaced Renato Gaúcho during the break. Emanuel inherited a side in 17th place with 20 points, needing a lift to escape the relegation zone. Ahead of the game, Vasco had also confirmed the return of Colombian forward Andrés Gómez, who had been at the World Cup with Colombia and was being monitored as a possible attacking option.

Vitória moved up to 10th place with 25 points, while Vasco remained in the bottom four, still at risk of being overtaken by rivals. The result also set the stage for Vasco's upcoming fixtures in the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Sudamericana playoffs.
