Rio de Janeiro government fines Consórcio Fla-Flu over Maracanã management
The Rio de Janeiro State Government has fined the Consórcio Fla-Flu more than R$ 401,000 due to inadequate cleaning and management at the Maracanã stadium. The penalty represents 2% of the annual R$ 20 million concession fee and is based on a 2025 independent verification report that highlighted structural failures in document management and maintenance planning.
The consortium, composed of Flamengo and Fluminense, has filed an appeal, and the collection of the fine is currently suspended pending analysis. This follows previous warnings issued in October 2025 regarding stadium cleanliness and subsequent notifications in April 2026 regarding management failures.
In other sports news, Flamengo secured a 1-0 victory against Remo in the 26th round of the Brasileirão 2026 at the Mangueirão stadium. The match drew significant television viewership, reaching 22 rating points in Rio de Janeiro. Additionally, ahead of the Libertadores quarterfinals, attention is focused on Flamengo players Gonzalo Plata and Anthony Valencia, who are returning to Quito to face their former club, Independiente del Valle.
