Flamengo midfielder Arrascaeta returns to training after World Cup
Uruguayan midfielder Arrascaeta has rejoined Flamengo's training base, the Ninho do Urubu, following Uruguay's early exit from the 2026 World Cup. The player, who was on the tournament roster but did not feature due to fitness concerns, is in the final phase of recovery from a right‑calf injury and is beginning physical work with the squad.
Arrascaeta is the first of the club's World Cup‑called players to return; teammates Gastón Varela and Matías De la Cruz are expected back later in the week, while Ecuadorian forward Gonzalo Plata will also resume training after a prescribed rest period. The four Brazilian internationals at Flamengo will have a longer break before rejoining. All players will follow individualised plans set by the club’s medical and technical staff, and none will travel to the inter‑season camp in Portugal. Flamengo aims to have a full roster available for the second half of the domestic season.
The return marks a step toward normalising the squad after the international break and allows Arrascaeta to work toward full match fitness ahead of upcoming league fixtures.
