Flamingos spotted on the Abruzzo coast prompt wildlife warnings
Young flamingos and other migratory birds have been spotted along the Abruzzo coast in Italy, specifically between Ortona and Fossacesia, as well as the Pescara coastline. The sightings have caused both curiosity and concern among local residents regarding the health of the animals.
WWF Abruzzo has issued guidance to the public to ensure the birds are not disturbed. The association emphasizes that a migratory bird resting on the beach does not necessarily mean it is injured. They advise observers to maintain distance, keep dogs away, and refrain from attempting to capture, feed, or move the birds. Such actions can prevent the animals from recovering energy and cause significant stress.
If individuals observe clear signs of injury, movement impediments, or immediate danger, they are instructed to report the exact location and observations to the Carabinieri Forestali or other competent wildlife rescue authorities. WWF Abruzzo noted that while taking photos or videos from a distance can help professionals assess the situation, the birds simply need space and tranquility to rest.
