Flash flood destroys bridge in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, cutting border access

A sudden flash flood struck the Tumber Khad at Ranikanda on Sunday evening in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, washing away the bridge that connects the villages of Chitkul and Dumti. The loss of the bridge temporarily snapped road connectivity to the India‑Tibet border area, affecting the movement of security forces and the transport of essential supplies.

No casualties were reported; the bridge debris was swept into the Baspa River. The Border Roads Organisation has begun assessing the damage and will start restoration work as soon as possible. Authorities advised residents and travellers to avoid rivers and streams during adverse weather, noting that the India Meteorological Department had previously issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state.
