Flash floods and fallen trees reported in Penang
Heavy rainfall in Penang has triggered flash floods and a fallen tree incident across several locations. In Seberang Perai, approximately 20 houses in Taman Cantek, Butterworth, were affected by floodwaters reaching about one foot deep. Similar flooding occurred at Jalan Jelawat, Seberang Jaya, where water levels also rose to approximately one foot due to heavy rain and rising levels in nearby drains.
In Balik Pulau, a durian tree approximately 20 feet tall fell, damaging a house structure and a vehicle. No injuries were reported in connection with the fallen tree or the flooding. Fire and rescue teams from Butterworth and Perai monitored the flood situations, which were reported to be under control as water levels began to recede. Emergency responders worked alongside the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) to clear debris from the fallen tree.
