Saputo to sell U.K. dairy operations to Lactalis

Saputo Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its United Kingdom dairy division to B. S. A. SAS (Lactalis). The transaction values the business at an enterprise value of approximately £988 million (roughly $1.86 billion).

The deal includes five manufacturing facilities and several local brands, such as Cathedral City, Wensleydale, Davidstow, Clover, and Country Life. Saputo noted that its U.K. operations have generated approximately $1.2 billion in revenue over the last four quarters, accounting for 7% of its total revenue.

Saputo President and CEO Carl Colizza stated the divestiture is intended to provide the company with greater financial flexibility and allow it to focus on platforms where it maintains a competitive advantage. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the first quarter of 2027, pending regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
