Flevoland drought restrictions lifted as water levels stabilize

Waterschap Zuiderzeeland has lifted a ban on the inundation of agricultural plots using surface water in the Flevoland and IJsselmeer regions. The measure, which was first implemented on August 14 to combat drought, prevented farmers from using water from ditches and canals to temporarily flood land for purposes such as soil pest control.

The regional drought status has been downgraded from a 'threatening' water shortage to a 'possible' water shortage. This improvement is attributed to stable water levels in the IJsselmeer, falling temperatures, decreased water demand, and expected rainfall. Despite this relief, a national precipitation deficit of approximately 300 millimeters remains.
