Flitabira International Literary Festival hosts black history exhibition

The 6th Flitabira International Literary Festival in Itabira is hosting the exhibition ‘Correspondências: memória, imagem e presença’ as part of the Memorial Vale Itinerante project. Running from October 29 to November 1 at the Carlos Drummond de Andrade Cultural Foundation, the showcase explores the history and presence of Black populations in the formation of southern Minas Gerais cities, specifically Poços de Caldas.

The exhibition features institutional photographs, artistic reinterpretations, and narrative letters. The research, conducted by Débora Romano, Gabriela Acerbi, and João Ferreira, utilizes archival materials from the Poços de Caldas Historical and Geographical Museum, including ten photographs produced between 1900 and 1964. These records depict Black individuals in daily life, workplaces, and public events.

In addition to the exhibition, the festival includes a dedicated youth program featuring storytelling, theatrical performances, and musical presentations. Scheduled activities include encounters with authors Lavínia Rocha and Paula Pimenta, as well as musical performances by the group Quase uma bandinha.
