Flitabira International Literary Festival programming

Overview

The sixth edition of the Flitabira International Literary Festival in Itabira, Brazil, has announced several debate sessions and exhibitions scheduled for late October 2026.

The festival will open on October 29 with ‘Poesia e Amor no Cotidiano’ (Poetry and Love in Daily Life), featuring writers Fabrício Carpinejar and Sérgio Abranches. Carpinejar will discuss contemporary feelings and behaviors in connection with his book ‘No meu tempo, eu era melhor’, while Abranches, acting as moderator, will promote his dystopian novel ‘A franja do fim do mundo’.

On October 30, the session ‘A Palavra e o Mundo’ (The Word and the World) will feature writers Geraldo Carneiro and Maria Esther Maciel, mediated by Marcelino Freire. This debate aims to explore literature—including poetry, fiction, and essays—as a tool for understanding reality, coinciding with the release of new works by the participants.

As part of the Memorial Vale Itinerante project, the exhibition ‘Correspondências: memória, imagem e presença’ will run from October 29 to November 1 at the Carlos Drummond de Andrade Cultural Foundation. The showcase explores the history of Black populations in southern Minas Gerais cities, specifically Poços de Caldas, using archival materials from the Poços de Caldas Historical and Geographical Museum. Research for the exhibition was conducted by Débora Romano, Gabriela Acerbi, and João Ferreira.

Additionally, journalist Leila Ferreira will present her book ‘O Nome Disto é Vida’ at the festival. A youth program will also feature storytelling, theatrical performances, and musical presentations, including encounters with authors Lavínia Rocha and Paula Pimenta and performances by the group Quase uma bandinha.

All activities are free and will be available via online streaming on YouTube. The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture through the Rouanet Law, the City of Itabira, the Carlos Drummond de Andrade Cultural Foundation, and Itaú.
