Félix Bolaños summoned to Congress over ‘Grandchildren’s Law’ dispute

The People's Party (PP) has formally requested that Minister of the Presidency, Justice, and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, appear before the Constitutional Commission in the Spanish Congress. This move follows a Supreme Court decision to implement a cautionary suspension regarding the electoral effects of the ‘Grandchildren’s Law’ (Ley de Nietos).

The suspension affects the voting rights of new electors registered in the Census of Absent Residents (CERA) under this law. While the measure does not annul granted nationalities or resolve the core legal dispute, it temporarily blocks their impact on elections. The PP seeks explanations regarding the role of ministry officials in expanding the scope of the law and the subsequent legal challenges.
