Flood Forces 450 Residents to Evacuate in Agam, West Sumatra

Heavy rain caused the Batang Tumayo River to overflow in Nagari Sungai Batang, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, prompting the evacuation of about 450 people to relatives' homes. Around 60 individuals remained trapped in flooded homes until rescue teams from the regional disaster agency (BPBD), the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the Red Cross (PMI), police and military units helped.

Authorities reported no fatalities and said floodwaters were receding, allowing some residents to return. The flood follows a previous flash‑flood in November 2025 that left the river silted, increasing the risk of overflow. Officials urged residents to stay alert and evacuate promptly when heavy rain is forecast.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency warned that heavy to very heavy rain could affect up to 15 provinces on the day, increasing the risk of floods and landslides across the region.
