Flood Watches Trigger Rescues in Georgia and Across the Southern US

The National Weather Service has placed a Flood Watch over north and west Georgia, including Metro Atlanta, warning that heavy rain could cause isolated flash flooding in low‑lying and urban areas. The outlook lists numerous counties from Baldwin to Wilkinson and notes that rainfall rates could exceed two to three inches per hour, raising flood risk when storms train over the same locations.

Across a broader region, downpours are drenching the South and Central United States. Roads are becoming inundated and emergency personnel, including Texas game wardens and search‑and‑rescue teams, are evacuating residents from rising waters in central Texas. Flood Watches now extend to portions of the Plains and major metros such as Dallas and Oklahoma City, with the greatest flood risk identified in the Missouri Valley, Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley. The persistent southerly flow draws deep Gulf moisture, sustaining heavy inland rain through early next week and increasing the likelihood of flash flooding on already saturated ground.
