Flooding and landslides hit Santa Bárbara and Yoro in Honduras

Heavy rainfall in Honduras has caused flooding, stream overflows, and landslides in the departments of Santa Bárbara and Yoro. In Quimistán, Santa Bárbara, a stream overflow affected 18 families, while the urban area of Pinalejo reported flooding in approximately 10 neighborhoods and damage to at least 15 homes. Emergency committees conducted preventive evacuations, though authorities noted limitations regarding available shelter space.

In Yoro, a landslide was reported in the Chancaya sector. The Secretariat of Risk Management and National Contingencies (Copeco) is coordinating efforts to assess road obstructions. Rainfall accumulations between 80 and 100 millimeters have been recorded in parts of Santa Bárbara due to moisture convergence and surface systems.

Copeco has maintained a green alert for 10 departments across the country. Emergency teams, including the Fire Department and the Engineer Battalion, are working to clear drains, remove debris, and monitor river basins such as the Ulúa and Chamelecón to mitigate further risks.
