Flooding and landslides in Honduras and Peru

Overview

Heavy rainfall has triggered flooding and related disasters across parts of Honduras and Peru.

In Honduras, the Blanco River overflowed in Santa Cruz de Yojoa, affecting between 40 and 50 families with water levels reaching approximately one meter. In the San Martín region of Peru, the Guinguillo creek overflowed in the Campanilla district, impacting 52 homes and causing the collapse of sewage and water systems.

As the weather patterns continued, additional flooding and landslides were reported in the Honduran departments of Santa Bárbara and Yoro. In Quimistán, a stream overflow affected 18 families, while Pinalejo reported flooding in roughly 10 neighborhoods. In the Chancaya sector of Yoro, a landslide occurred. The Secretariat of Risk Management and National Contingencies (Copeco) maintained a green alert for 10 departments, with emergency teams monitoring the Ulúa and Chamelecón river basins.
