Monsoon flooding affects multiple Indian states

Heavy monsoon rains have triggered widespread flooding across multiple Indian states, affecting tens of thousands of people.

In Uttar Pradesh, rising water levels in the Sharda and Ghaghra rivers have impacted numerous districts. Reports indicate that approximately 13 to 12 districts, including Lakhimpur Kheri and Barabanki, have seen 166 to 173 villages flooded, affecting between 64,000 and 84,000 people. The state government has deployed 86 relief teams, including NDRF, SDRF, and PAC units, and has established over 1,500 flood posts and 1,200 shelters to provide food and medical aid.

In Madhya Pradesh, the Belan River has overflowed in the Rewa district, submerging the Deeh bridge and cutting off access to 12 villages. The flooding has also reached the Sonari police post and a local power house. SDERF teams have been deployed to the Tyonthar region on high alert.

In Chhattisgarh, the Hasdev River has breached its banks following heavy rainfall and the release of water from the Bango Dam. In the Sitamani area of Korba, floodwaters have entered residential homes. Local authorities are conducting rescue operations and advising residents to remain vigilant.
