Flooding in Iran causes deaths and missing persons in Golestan

Heavy rainfall and flooding have caused significant damage across several Iranian provinces, including Golestan, Alborz, Khuzestan, Lorestan, Fars, and Gilan. In Golestan province, nine separate flooding and waterlogging incidents occurred between October 4 and October 11, affecting 33 households.

Morteza Salimi, CEO of the Golestan Red Crescent Society, reported that two people have died and one person remains missing following these events. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, utilizing 70 relief personnel, including staff and volunteers, along with drones, search dogs, and 17 rescue vehicles. Emergency aid, including tents and food supplies, has been distributed to affected families.

In other regions, such as Karaj in Alborz province, flooding has swept vehicles through streets, causing property damage. Waterlogging has also been reported in Izeh, Khorramabad, and Oz. Authorities have warned that continued heavy rainfall, potentially influenced by El Niño, necessitates urgent municipal action to clear drainage channels and prevent further urban flooding caused by debris and waste.
