Flooding in Tamaulipas sweeps vehicle into storm drain

Heavy rainfall caused significant flooding in the southern Tamaulipas region of Mexico, specifically affecting Tampico, Ciudad Madero, and Altamira. The weather event, driven by a cold front, resulted in accumulated rainfall of up to 90 millimeters in Altamira and 50 millimeters in Tampico and Ciudad Madero.

In the Primavera neighborhood of Tampico, a strong current swept a Volkswagen vehicle approximately 50 to 60 meters before it landed in a storm drain. The driver, who was traveling alone, managed to escape the vehicle unharmed. Local authorities, including Tampico Civil Protection Director Antonio Marín, responded to the scene to assist with vehicle recovery and to monitor flooded areas.

Civil Protection officials have warned of continued risks, including strong winds of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour and heavy to very heavy rains through the weekend. Residents are urged to avoid crossing flooded streets due to the danger of intense currents.
