Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) is replacing the Ponte al Pino rail bridge in Florence. The 550‑tonne bridge deck will be lifted and installed in a single operation using a 2 000‑tonne crane capable of lifting up to 1 600 tonnes, one of the largest lifts used for urban rail works in Europe.

Train services on the Florence Campo di Marte–Firenze Rifredi and Florence Campo di Marte–Firenze Santa Maria Novella lines are suspended from 23:00 on 26 July until 11:00 on 30 July. During the suspension RFI reduces the node’s schedule by about 50 %, with four trains per hour kept on the Santa Maria Novella line and three per hour on the Campo di Marte line. Long‑distance services are rerouted via the Tirrenic line, running two trains per hour on the Rome‑Milan/Torino corridor and adding roughly two‑and‑a‑half hours to journey times.

A free bus shuttle operates between Firenze Santa Maria Novella and Firenze Campo di Marte to maintain local connectivity. Minister of Transport Matteo Salvini attended the bridge‑installation ceremony. The work is part of a broader programme to modernise and improve the safety, reliability and durability of Florence’s rail infrastructure.
