Flores earthquake: Rapid tsunami warnings and road recovery underway

Following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake on Flores Island, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Indonesia, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) successfully deployed its tsunami warning system in 2 minutes and 16 seconds. This rapid response met the agency's target of providing information in under three minutes, allowing residents to take safety measures before tsunamis reaching heights of 2.5 meters struck northern Flores.

In terms of infrastructure, the Ministry of Public Works has reported that national road connectivity on Flores has been restored. The ministry prioritized clearing landslides caused by the earthquake to ensure logistics and mobility. Efforts are also focused on repairing the Wae Pesi Bridge in Manggarai Regency, a critical link for fuel distribution. Heavy equipment remains stationed at high-risk landslide areas to manage potential aftershocks.
