ZDF announces new satire show following end of Böhmermann program
The German public broadcaster ZDF is undergoing significant changes to its satire programming. Jan Böhmermann will conclude his show, ‘ZDF Magazin Royale’, on December 18, 2026, after 187 episodes. The end of the format is expected to impact approximately 80 employees at the production company, with only a few positions expected to remain in 2027.
In response, ZDF has announced a new satire program titled ‘Journal Deluxe – mit Florian Schroeder’. The show, described as an anarchic and accessible late-night format, is set to premiere in the ZDF Mediathek on October 29, with a television broadcast scheduled for November 3 at 0:45. Schroeder aims to provide a ‘more liberal’ perspective without ‘blinkers’.
Separately, Sat. 1 moderator Marc Bator is leaving the news program ‘Newstime’ after 13 years. Bator, who previously worked for ARD’s ‘Tagesschau’, stated he intends to focus on his sports management agency and cycling. He noted that the television market has changed significantly due to digital shifts and artificial intelligence.
