Florian Zeller’s ‘Bunker’ premieres at Venice Film Festival

Writer-director Florian Zeller premiered his new domestic drama, ‘Bunker’, at the Venice Film Festival. The film stars real-life spouses Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem, marking the first time the couple has appeared on screen together. The film received a 15-minute standing ovation during its screening.

Set primarily in London, ‘Bunker’ follows Miguel, a Spanish architect played by Bardem, and his wife Sofia, played by Cruz. The narrative explores marital discord and moral compromise as Miguel considers a lucrative project to build a survivalist bunker in Hawaii for a Silicon Valley tech mogul, played by Paul Dano. The story examines the tension between professional ambition and ethical values.

Actor Patrick Schwarzenegger also stars in the film, portraying a successful novelist. Schwarzenegger, who received the Rising-Star Award at the Deauville American Film Festival, noted that working with Cruz was a significant opportunity and praised Zeller’s direction.
