Florianópolis targets Chilean tourists and ranks high for domestic holiday travel
Florianópolis is positioning itself as a premier destination for Chilean travelers, specifically targeting the growing trend of “escapadas” or short weekend trips. According to data from Sebrae, Chilean visitors represent the highest average daily spend in Santa Catarina at R$ 660.00. Currently, Florianópolis is the second most sought-after Brazilian destination for Chileans, receiving over 400,000 visitors annually, trailing only Rio de Janeiro.
To bolster this market, the Destino Floripa entity, in collaboration with the Municipal Secretariat of Tourism and the Brazilian Embassy in Santiago, has conducted training workshops for over 130 tourism professionals in Chile. These initiatives focus on promoting the city's infrastructure, flight maps, and diverse attractions, including gastronomy and leisure.
Additionally, travel search engine KAYAK identifies Florianópolis as a top destination for short holiday trips within Brazil. In rankings for upcoming long weekends, the city placed 5th for the September Independence Day holiday and 10th for the October holiday, reflecting a broader trend where approximately 64% of Brazilians plan to undertake multiple short trips in 2026.
