Florida authorities arrest two educators for alleged abuse of students with disabilities

Law enforcement in Flagler County, Florida, has arrested two educators following separate allegations of physical abuse involving students with disabilities.

Bryan Schewitz, a 60-year-old substitute teacher at Matanzas High School, was arrested for child abuse. According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses reported that Schewitz forcefully moved a student into a chair during a behavioral episode and subsequently kicked the student in the leg. Schewitz reportedly told deputies that he kicked the student by accident after the student struck him first.

Separately, Kevin Adkisson, a 52-year-old teacher at Wadsworth Elementary in Palm Coast, was arrested following an investigation into the alleged assault of a 6-year-old special needs student. Witnesses claimed Adkisson grabbed the child in a rough motion, pushed him, and eventually pressed the student against a wall, restricting his ability to move. The student reportedly told witnesses he could not breathe and was in pain during the encounter.
