Lee County, Florida, is installing AI‑powered cameras on school buses that automatically issue $225 citations to drivers who illegally pass a stopped bus. The system records license plates, timestamps and video, which are later reviewed by officials before a citation is mailed to the vehicle owner.

In Cape Coral, city leaders are evaluating similar AI cameras mounted on sanitation trucks to scan residential areas for code violations during routine routes. City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn says the technology could reduce the need for additional code‑enforcement staff and lower taxpayer costs, while residents voice concerns about privacy, data security and potential job impacts. Cybersecurity expert Evan Lutz emphasized the need for safeguards to keep data local and protected.
