Florida launches redesigned driver licenses and ID cards

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) is launching newly redesigned driver licenses and identification cards. Announced by Governor Ron DeSantis, the new credentials will be available at statewide service centers starting September 30, with online orders through the MyDMVPortal expected by early November.

The redesigned cards feature various historical and natural elements of the state. The front includes the Castillo de San Marcos as a background, an orange integrated into the word ‘Florida’, a manatee in the lower corner, and an alligator within the REAL ID star. The back of the card highlights the state’s Space Coast with an image of the Space Shuttle Discovery and includes the historical motto ‘Let Us Alone’.

According to FLHSMV Executive Director Dave Kerner, the redesign aims to enhance security and address emerging fraud trends. The new cards incorporate the state seal as an enhanced security feature and maintain REAL ID compliance to ensure high-level identity verification.
